Accelerated Sustainability Planning
The Townsville City Council Sustainability Planning Program, 17th - 21st May 2004, featured a number of key events, the culmination of which was the two-day Accelerated Sustainability workshop for Council Managers & stakeholders. On the 20th - 21st May 2004, the Sustainable Planning Forum workshop was held at Panorama House, Townsville. The key objectives of the workshop were to bring internal and external stakeholders of Townsville City Council together to consider the sustainable future of our City. Four other events were held in support of the workshop. |

For the two day workshop, participants were led through a series of group tasks to consider the key sustainability elements of economic, social, wellbeing and nature for our City. These tasks included the consideration of the key assets and infrastructure, and Council-Community concerns and values to create a vision for Townsville’s long term future. The workshop considered past, present and future trends for the prosperity of Townsville. A draft set of indicators based on workshop participants’ perceptions was developed. The workshop also identified ideas and innovations for the future and finally identified strategies to implement them. In summary 4 key strategies were identified as key leverage points for the future of the City. These include: |

Watched by the attendees
of the two day Accelerated Sustainability managers and stakeholders workshop,
the Deputy Mayor and Chair of Sustainable Development Committee places
the Capstone Agreement flag (Rocky Springs) on the completed Sustainability
Pyramid - a final celebration.
