The competition is part of the Solar Cities Congress which was held in Adelaide, South Australia in February 2008.

The City of Townsville supported the competition by helping participants with their entries.

The main purposes of the competition are to:

• Raise the profile of sustainable city design amongst school students.
• develop their understanding of sustainability issues.
• showcase young people’s skill in tackling sustainability issues, and
• add a unique educational element to the Congress.

Townsville is moving towards becoming a sustainable solar city!

Townsville City Council's Intergrated Sustainability Services thrive to deliver programs to move towards sustainability- including renewable energy, sustainable transport, sustainable energy, land use, biodiversity conservation, water management, and thematic interpretation.

All our programs are community-based and ISS works closely with Townsville schools and community groups to achieve quality outcomes and to move towards sustainainabilty.
