Children from St Joseph’s School Mundingburra were taken on a guided tour of the Bush Tucker Trail at the Town Common in July as part of the Greentree Ants program. The much anticipated event was the highlight of the program which began with studying the importance of trees, the role of the green tree ant in maintaining a healthy eco-system, examining the school grounds for biodiversity and learning about plants and pollination.
These preparatory sessions provided the Year 5 students with knowledge and skills enabling them to gain remarkable insights into their local natural environment.
The tour provided a range of experiences including recognising animal footprints, close-up of a green tree ant nest, examining blady grass, butterflies and sandpaper fig leaves.
