Townsville to host Ecotourism Australia Conference in 2006

Townsville has won the bid to host the 2006 Ecotourism Australia Conference.

Ecotourism Australia Chair Clare McFarlane made the announcement at the close of the 2005 Conference to more than 250 delegates in Hobart.

“We are delighted to be heading to Townsville for 2006 and they have demonstrated the capacity and range of ecotourism opportunities in the region which are critical to the Conference.”

“Their bid highlighted the excellent multiple carrier direct air access, diverse conference facilities, and the demonstrated enthusiasm and strong support from the Townsville City council and Townsville Enterprise Limited.”

“One of the 2005 highlights has been taking delegates out to the surrounding regions in Tasmania to immerse them in the environment and sites relevant to Conference topics.

“Townsville through their bid, showed their commitment and capacity to include a similar format in 2006 with many options for engaging the surrounding areas, which will provide a significant boost to local communities and regions.”

Ms McFarlane said that Ecotourism Australia was also excited about the 2006 Conference with the program and line-up continuing to grow in strength each year.

“The depth and breadth of speakers at this year’s Conference, including the largest representation of international speakers and delegates, has seen the program move forward and truly take on an international flavour.”

“This diversity of international and national attendance we have experienced adds enormous value to the content of the Conference contributing significant benefits and the knowledge being shared in this environment is leading edge.”

“We are looking forward to working with Townsville City Council and Townsville Enterprise Limited in the next 12-months to develop the program and bring the Conference to fruition.”
